What Silver Eyes See

“Our general had very interesting things to say about you, Charlotte of Videk. You have powers you should not possess. You know things no human should know. You see what shall come to pass without the blood to justify it.”

Two hundred years ago the sun god, Solskinne, promised humans eternal life in the form of a crystal created deep in the womb of the Videk mountains. While priests prepared for a pilgrimage, the magical race of Alinar stole the crystal. The humans fought for their gift, killing nine out of ten Alinar before the survivors escaped to a canyon colony called Serenae. Now, humans have turned the Alinar into scary bedtimes stories, while the Solskinne faithful encourage racial and religious purity throughout Videk.

Lotte, a human whose fortune-teller gig is the most legal of her many professions, steals gems from a caravan guarded by The Thousand Blades mercenary company. A caravan guard catches her and beats her to near-death. The guard’s partner, Cyrus Foxglove, a half-Alinar mercenary and musician, finds Lotte in an alley. He heals her through magic, which triggers something in Lotte. She begins to have visions of the future- a tower and an Alinar man portending war. With Cyrus' help, she travels to Serenae to understand the source of her visions.
